We have rebuilt Foodzone from the ground up. This page lists what has changed. Later updates appear above this one in What's new.
The switch is in the last week of October — please help us test
Everyone moves to the new Foodzone in the last week of October 2026. Your account, diaries, clients, custom foods and recipes come with you.
Before then we need people to try it and tell us what is broken or confusing. Five minutes in the demo helps. To test with a copy of your own diary, email help@foodzone.io and we will set you up.
A new Australian food database
The new recommended database, Australia, is built on AUSNUT 2023, the current government data. On top of that it adds:
- Many more brand foods — supermarket products, by brand, with the serve sizes printed on the pack.
- Supplements — vitamins, minerals, protein powders and herbal products, with what each one contains.
- Everyday measures — a slice, a cup, a medium apple, not only grams.
- Better search — it understands brand names and Australian words, so chook, snags and cuppa find what you meant.
The aim is that you rarely need to make a custom food. When something is missing you can suggest it, and it is added for everyone — see Suggest a food and earn rewards.
The official government databases are still there, unchanged, for research and teaching — see Choose a food database and Where our food data comes from.
An iPhone app, in testing now
Foodzone for iPhone is in testing, with Android to follow. It uses the same account and the same diary as the website. If you are keen to try it, email help@foodzone.io and we will send you an invitation.
In the app you can:
- Scan a barcode to add a packaged food — see Scan a barcode.
- Say what you ate. Tap Say, speak a meal in your own words, check the matches and save.
- Add a missing product with two photos of the pack, and log it straight away.
Start with Get the app and sign in.
Type or paste what you ate
On the website, Add from notes turns plain text into diary entries. Paste anything up to a week of food notes — from a client's email, a message or a paper diary — check the matches Foodzone found, then save them to the right days and meals.
A cleaner, faster diary
The whole site has been redesigned. It is faster, works properly on a phone browser, and has a dark theme. In the diary you can drag entries and whole meals between groups and days, re-add recent foods in one tap, repeat yesterday's meal, and undo mistakes — see Recent items and quick add and Meal groups.
Team plans — no more sharing a login
A practice no longer needs to share one email address. On the new Team plan each person signs in as themselves, and everyone works from the same list of clients. The plan includes 4 seats, and you can add more — see Work on clients as a team.
Notes shared between client and health professional
Anyone can write a note in the diary, beside the meal it belongs to — how a meal felt, a symptom, a question, or advice from the professional. When a diary is shared, both the client and the health professional see the notes — and a professional with edit access can write them too — so the conversation sits with the food it is about. See Add food, exercise, biometrics and notes and Share your diary with a health professional.
Exercise and biometric health actions
The diary now holds more than food. Log exercise with a duration and intensity, and it counts towards the day's energy balance. Log measurements such as weight alongside your meals. They are in the same Add to Diary search as food — use the Exercise and Biometric chips to find them.
Reports and targets
Nutrition reports cover any range up to 31 days and export as a PDF. Targets are worked out from the current Australian nutrient reference values, and each one shows where it came from — see Run a nutrition report and How your targets are worked out.
